Application

Applying makeup with the right technique is important to ensure you are left with a flawless and long lasting face. Always start your makeup routine with a primer as it prepares your skin for foundation application while also filling in fine lines, smoothing pores and helping to keep your makeup looking fresh all day. Not to prime is a crime!

Brows

Less is more when it comes to achieving naturally looking full brows. If you are too scared to pick up the pencil, just use an eye shadow or brow powder and a brush to instantly fill the sparse areas of to your brows.

Contour

“Contouring is giving shape to an area of the face and enhancing the facial structure through makeup, it’s not supposed to be noticeable – just a subtle definition” says makeup artist Beau Nelson. Start soft, build, and then buff.

Define your undertones

Become familiar with what undertone your skin is whether it would be warm, cool or neutral to know what colours look best on you.

Eyes

Wearing white eyeliner in your waterline can enhance your eyes while brightening, instantly awakening and reducing the look of redness.

Foundation

Forget testing foundation shades on the back of your hand, to find a true colour match test the foundation on clean skin on an area between your cheek and jawline.

Different foundation types

Gloss

Glossy eyelids are one of the hottest makeup trends of 2017. Makeup artist Tom Pecheux added gloss to a classic smokey eye on the runway for both Balmain and Altuzarra.

Highlight

Adding highlighter to the high points of your face will add dimension and create a beautiful reflection.

Ingredients

Natural ingredients can work with your skin and not against it. If you have sensitive skin it is important to know what aggravates your skin and to stay clear of those products. A natural makeup alternative is always a better option for sensitive skin.

Just go for it

Never be afraid to play around with new makeup trends. Your confidence is the most important thing to remember, if you look good you feel good.

Kohl liner

This soft pencil helps define, line and shade the eye with rich colour and a smooth finish.

Lips

Only overdraw your lips around your cupid’s bow and below the middle of your bottom lip for a more natural enhanced fuller lip.

Moisturise

To avoid your foundation and concealer clinging to dry skin, ensure your face is moisturised before makeup application. This will create an even canvas for your makeup.

Naked

Don’t be afraid to go barefaced. It’s important to accept yourself for who you are and realise that your flaws are a part of what make you beautiful.

Oils

Coconut oil can be used as a natural makeup remover. Simply massage the oil into your skin in circular motions, use a wet washcloth to remove the excess and rinse your face.

Powder

If you have oily skin, setting your liquid foundation with powder will ensure your makeup doesn’t budge throughout the day.

Q-tip

If you smudge your makeup, use a Q-tip with makeup remover to get rid of any unwanted mistakes.

Remove

Always remove your makeup before bed. Sleeping with makeup can have many negative effects to your skin; this can include unwanted pimples, eye irritation, premature aging and blackheads.

Setting spray

Using a setting spray will prevent your makeup creasing, smudging or fading. This will keep you looking fresher for longer.

Practice makes perfect. Developing different makeup techniques takes practice so it’s important to have patience and take the time to find a technique that is unique to you.
