It’s that time of year that us fashion and beauty lovers, all around the world, patiently anticipate, Fashion Week!
This year, Red Scout got to attend Melbourne Fashion Week, in support of our own Australian favourites. The likes of Arnsdorf, Bianca Spender, Camilla and Marc, Dion Lee, Michael Lo Sordo, Scanlan Theodore and Viktoria and Woods were all showcased, and may we just say, their lines were absolutely spectacular.
The clothing had the audience wishing that we could add those pieces to our wardrobe. The style was sophisticated business/day wear. Though I couldn’t stop focusing on the hair, which bounced and swung as the models strutted down the runway.
This was the amazing Kevin Murphy’s 14th year of partnering with Melbourne Fashion Week as the hair director, making sure that he and his team of local and global hairdressing talents complimented each look with the perfect hair styles.
Kevin said, “There’s an undeniable buzz around Melbourne during MFW. The week creates a great opportunity to celebrate new season fashion, push the boundaries on new hair trends while also shining the spotlight on this incredible city.”

There were two definite statement styles on the runway. The first was the amazing slicked back, dead straight, low ponytail. This look had hair pieces added to make the hair longer and thicker, allowing them to also add the extra feature of hair wrapped around the base, reaching roughly around 10 centimetres down the hair shaft. As the models moved down the runway, the hair swished like a horse tail, really capturing our attention.
Kevin Murphy definitely reinvented the classic ponytail. He said, “We wanted to tap into the craftsmanship of these designers and reflect the incredible tailoring in their collections through the hair, so we created a very pulled together and precise ponytail,” said Murphy. “We’re calling this the ‘Extreme Ponytail’, as it has an almost equestrienne feel.”

The other look was natural, messy, untamed hair, surrounding the face. The hair bounced around their shoulders as the models walked, giving off a really care free vibe that actually paired excellently with the sophisticated runway styles.
This spring style is all about embracing and enhancing your natural curls if you’ve got them.
Both of these are really simple hair styles that are easy to replicate and go nicely with almost any look. Simply spray and scrunch for the ‘messy hair, don’t care’ look, or tighten that hair back in a low pony for the ‘simple but sophisticated’ look.
There is no doubt that these hair styles will be trending this season.
